School Closing at Liberty Hill.
To the Kditor of the Dispatch:
On the morniug of March ISth,
?? ' ii-i ?ii.
tnree or lour nunureu persons gmuered
at Liberty Hill, to witness the
closing exercises of the school.
Of the sixty pupils enrolled during
the session fifty five were present
cheerfully ready to take their parts.
An attractive feature of the entertainment
was the presence of the
Hall band of Lewiedale, who furnished
most excellent music during the
exercises.
After the music on the organ by
Mr. Miller and singing by several
ladie?, the curtain was drawn aside
and the exercise opened with prayer
by Rev. S. P. Sbumpert.
Then followed a recitat:onby seven
little misses who formed WELCOME,
and a welcome address by one of the
young men. Till noon the audience
was delightfully entertained by the
younger pupils, the larger one's joining
them occasionally, with amusing
dialogues, funny recitations, songs,
marching, etc. The little folk did
extremely well which showed their
careful training and preparation.
An hour's intermission was taken
during which time dinner wa3 served
in picnic style. The long table prepared
by the patrons was well filled
with many nice things which ail
enjoyed. Rev. Mr. Shealy of Saluda,
asked the blessing.
On re-assembling Hon. W. II
Sharpe addressed the people on the
subject of Public Schools in Our
County and State. His was an able
and eloquent speech.
Then for two or more hours the
older students displayed their talent.
They delivered their recitations,
declamations, dialogues, charade and
plays in aD admirable manner. They
touched the hearts of the hearers
with the patriotic song, ' Our Flag,"
and also pleased the audience with
the Spring Garland Drill.
Each pupil of the school acted
well his or her part, much to the
credit of pupils, patrons and teacher.
In a few words Miss Sue Corley
returned sincere thanks to the audience
for their kind attention, to her
patrons for the many kindnesses
shown her, and to the young men of
the band for highly appreciated
favor in playing.
The audience then listened very attentively
to a special piece gotten up
for the close.
All went to their respective homes
feeling that the day had been well
spent.
The pupils and patrons highly
eBteem the valuable services of Miss
Sue Corley. This is her second term
and she will be gladly welcomed at
the next session.
