Prayer meeting may be expected in the Methodist church tomorrow evening. The exercises of the Lexington Classical Institute will be resumed Monday. Mr- Hal C. Bradford of Savannah, spent the holidays with his parents in this place. The tax books will be closed Saturday and the penalty will be added after that day. By order of the Town Council, the dispensary at this place was closed Saturday afternoon near 1 o'clock. A communication has been received from Captain J. Feaster Lyles and will be given our careful attention. Christmas holidays are over and many people will now have a picnic time of moviDg from one home to another. Heber Barre a Clemson student, was on the streets during the holi days shaking hands with friends and smiling at the girls. Mr. Elias Caughman, the popular and efficient clerk of T. B. Aughtry & Co, of Columbia, was in town during the holidays. Dr. E. J. Etheredge, Leesville's popular dentist and progressive citizen, was in town yesterday and dropped in to see us. An Old Idea. The total amount of taxes collected up to date is $23,777 53, leaving a balance to be collected of $22,02G 85, of which amount $5,520.49 is due by the Seivern and the Southern Kailway companies and $16,505.46 by individuals. The children who paittcipated in these exeiciscs acquitted themselves handsomely and gave evidence of being carefully trained. During the evening many handsome gifts were distributed and the bright faces and sparkling eyes proved that the tender buds in the Lord's vineyaid were made happy. The ofnoc-rs and members of the Methodist church celebrated Christmas in a quiet but impressive and solemn manner, each one of whom received a package of apples, catody, fruits, etc, and in this simple wa> they commemorated the birth o' -- - - i n ^ 1 him who is to save the woiia iroir sin. Sunday evening in the court hous* the Lutheran Suuday school, of which Mr. M. D. Harman is the eificiem and beloved Superintendent, and their friends, celebrated the day by a well arranged program. The house was elaborately and tastefully decorated. Beautiful scriptural mottoes, appropriate to tbe occasion, were hung in conspicuous places. At the beginning of the exercises a largt audience greeted the young people and showed its appreciation of. theij efforts to please by giving closo and attentive attention. Tbe childoen all did remarkabh well and much credit is due to then trainers and the manner in which they acted their parts was a reward for the able manner in which ihe\ hud been iustructed. The euUtaininent was a complete i access 1l every particular. Mr. GraicbenV address was fine and riiowed full} the work of St. Stephens Sunday school.
