The Joint Council of St. Stephen's

A Fatal Accident.
We have received the news of a j
fatal accident which happened near i
Swansea last Sunday. Two young
men were out enjoying the pleasures
of a buggy ride, when the horse,

which belonged to Mr. W. L. K.
JohDscn, became frightened and I
made a dash, throwing Mr. Bill '
Berry, the son of Mr. George Berry, !
out from which he received injuries
from the effects of which lie died after
lingering only three hours from j
the time of the accident. He was !
employed at the saw and grist mill ;
Rast Bros., and is said to have been
well thought of. His companion
escaped being injured by jumping j
from the buggy.

Mrs. Luther Kieckley, died Monday
night and was buried at St. Peter's

p. m , by reading the 13th chapter of
, II Cor., which was followed by an
earnest supplication to the throne of
grace for guidance and protection by
j the Hon. W. H. F. Rist. The ex
ercises consisted of declamations and
; dialogues by the pupils, each of
I whom showed thoughtful and careful
preparation and training and the
I manner in which they acquitted
j themselves reflected credit alike upon
I themselves and their instructor.
The music was cf an unusual high
i' order and was furnished by a cho'r
i j of carefully selected voices, with
: Miss Maggie Goodwin presiding at
the organ in her graceful and charm
' ing manner, who was ably assisted
by the talented Miss Sue Milder
brand.
Hon. \V. H. F. Rust deliycred a
timely and excellent address in
i which he showed the urgent necessity
of reading good pure, and in
structive books in order to train the

intellect and to develop the character.
W. 13. Fallaw then addressed the
; pupils and patrons of the school,
thanking them for their uniform
kindness and courtesy extended 'o
him during the session. The patrons
are well pleased with the effective
; ness and thorough ness of Mr. Fali
law's sj'stem of teaching and his
faithful and conscientious dischageof
his duties, the pupils under whose
care they were placed, shows a
marked improvement and are well
advanced up the hill of learning.
The address was vrell received and
enjoyed by all.

bell for the school, which brought in
satisfactory results and Miss Lula A.
