Today the big cotton planters' convention is to meet in Atlanta, and it is to be hoped that some measures will be devised by which the pressure on the cotton industry will be relieved. The only relief that I see for the Southern planter is to produce every thing on the farm that is needed: coin, peas, hay, wheat, oats, Ac., and raise plenty of stock, hogs, cattle and sheep. I am glad to be able to say that large areas in this J O section have been sown in wheat and oats, good stands have been secured j and the prospect now is for a large | small grain crop next summer. This community was pained to learn of the death of Mr. Henry | Clark at Clemson College, last Saturday. He was a son of Mr. 0. P. Clark, and was a bright young man of fair promise of a useful life. He entered Clemson College at the opening of the fall session. His remains were buried at AYaterec church last Sunday. The bereaved parents have the sympathy of the entire community. I)r. J. AY. Kargle is erecting a telephone line, connecting his 1 evidence with the town of Cbapin. This will be a great convenience to his patrons in that section. S. ? <. - - ? "The Charleston Gala." The dear old City by the Sea." a place ever dear to the heart of every true Carolinian is arrayed this week in hor "Rih and Tucker. to receive the thousands of visitors who will pour in her hospitable gates to enjoy the attractions which have been prepared with an unstinting hand for their entertainment. Doubtless many have gone from this county and it is not yet too late for others to go. As far as we have been able to learn the following persons from this immediate vicinity left Monday: Messrs. Dice I>. Haimau, A. J. Fox and Thomas L. Harman. The lirst two go to feast the eyes upon the numerous pretty gills and take in the sights, and the last as a delegate from Lixington Lodge No L">2 A. F. M., to the Grand Lodge. A Humerous Lecture. Lecture AVideman was in town Monday and delivered his famous lecture "Hit the Grit." to a small but appreciative audience. His corning was almost unannounced and the inclement weather were against him, but notwithstanding these draw backs he sustained his reputation as a humorous lecturer and kept bis audience in a happy, humor. His lecture combined the pathetic and humerous sides of life, and his delineations of the different characters which he assumed were such as a Sol Smith Russell would have been proud of. It is well worth "><> cents of any man's money to hear him. We are informed that it is probable he will repeat his lecture at this place some time dtning court week in February.
