the purchaser, it is not known at
present what the purchaser will do
with the property.
Ex President Cleveland and a
pirty of fiiends are hunting ducks
in Georgetown county. They will
spend about three weeks in the
marshes of that county. The citizens
of the town have tendered the
distinguished visitors a banquet.
Hon. J. Wm. Stokes, has pn-paied
a bill whi. li lie will introduce iu the
Lower House of Cmgi ess forbidding
speculating in futures, which if
passed will be the best measure
adopted by Congress in years. Wc
will comment more fully upon it at
some future date.
J. M. Thirswend, of Grosbecl*,
Tex., says that when he has a spell
of indigestion, and feels bad and
sluggish, he takes two of He Witt's

Tulane University and will take the
fall law course preparatory to entering
the practice.

Rock Hill has a genuine case of
small pox in the person of a young
boy who had been in one of the hospitals
in Atlanta, Ga, and several of
tie towns have quarantined against
that town. It is not thought that
the disease will become au epidemic.
Every precaution is being taken to
confine the fever to the house where
it was lii ist developed.
Swansea Items.
To the Editor of the Dispatch:
A dark veil still o'er shadows our
community. The low price of our
principal staple still continues low
down and the death wail of the
laborer is still lamentable. His income
for a living consists in the products
of his muscles and all such
are at the bottom figures, and this
"Makes a winter of tbe soul,
A winter of dispair;
Ob, when shall spring its rage control
When shall the snow drops blossom
there?"
The death aDgel has agaiu visited
our community. The wife and
Christian companion of our fellow
citizeD, Preston Lucas, Las reached
the end of her pilgrimage and
leaves her husband to niiss her
comfort and consolation and several
small children to bewail the loss of a
mother's tender, considerate care.
Mrs. Lucas was thirty-eight years
old and has been a member of tbe
Baptist church from girlhood. She
was laid to rest in the Lucas graveyard
in Black creek.
Iiev. Kiuard, of the Lutheran
church was to preach here last Sunday
afternoon iu the Methodist church, j
b?t the South Bound train being j
behind its schedule, telegraphed that j
he could not reach here iu time.
Some other houses of busiutss arcexpected
to open here soon and will
be reported at the proper time.
It will be a source of regret to very
maDy in Lexington county to know
that the health of Dr. \Y. T. Brooker,
who for years faithfully aud ably
represented this county in the Legislature,
is not good and lie thinks of
being forced to leave off much of his
practice and coutiue himself more at
present to office practice and rest.
The Swansea school is still on the
up grade and now chronicles onehundred
and twenty nine.
You were correct in saying it
was Mrs. Maggie C Corbitt and
not Mr. C. H. Corbitt who lias been

Camp discussed the matter of pensions,
or the present pension law,
after which the following resolution

It is the seuse of this uieelin# that
the l'eusiou law should bo so amended,
that the fuud appropriated by
the State should be prorated among
tl'ie several counties, iu proportion to
the number of soldiers such county
sent iuto the field?that the classification
of the present law be stricken
out, and the amount received by the
several counties, shall be prorated
equally by the County Board between
and among those they may
think the most deserving'?and that ;
our members of the Legislature be j
requested to use their efforts to have
these changes in the law made.

Carolina "Women of the Confederacy
