During our visit to Columbia in

dropped in at the four immense department

tremendous stocks of goods therein
displayed. Ever) body was ou the

customers. Notwithstanding the
hurry and bustle and seemingly confusion
and Buble of voices the well
trained corps of clerks attended to
their vaiious duties with a systematic
promptness that was really
wonderful to witn-: ss. "YYi h a nod to

A Sudden and Sad Death.
As we go to press we received with
unfeigned sorrow the sad intelli
gence of the sudden death of Mrs.
Sallie Kiininer, at the home of Mr.
Ed. Gable in Red Rank this morning.
The immediate cause of her death
was heart disease, from which she
had been a sufferer for years, so v%e
understand.
Mrs. Kamiuer was an estimable
lady, enjoying the love, respect and
confidence of the entire community.
In her the sick, hud an attentive
nurse; the sorrowing and distress a
warm and sympathetic friend and the
light hearted a cheerful and patient
companion. Like an angel of mercy
her presence in the home of mourning
was a benediction of peace.
Tiie genllc, loving, trusting heart
throbs no more for human sorrow
and distress: the pure and gentle
spirit of this old mother in Isreal
has winged its everlasting flight to
that "mansion of God, not made
with hands, eternal in the heavens,"
| while we are left sad and in darkness
upon the shores of time waiting for
| the summons to go hence. Let us
strive to emulate her virtues and
! follow her as she followed the footsteps
of Jesus.
