I The Johnston Monitor may be assured that The State has no stronger "antagonism" than that it entertains toward Tiliman and Tiilmanism? meaning by the latter the spirit he has generated among "fellows of the baser sort." We are for free silver as against gold monometalism for the reasons stated, and no other. If our Edgefield contemporary is in the habit of printing and distributing 2,000 copies of its weekly issue, and shall next week send out only 1,500 of them, retaining the remainder in its office, to meet some possible emergency demand, or for any other reason, then its circulation while those 500 papers are retained is but 1,500 and not 2,000. This illustration will serve to show that gold dees not circulate is not in circulation. It is not serving the purpose money. It is acting as bullion only, not as coin. Of course we do not claim that the free coinage of silver would coax gold out of its hiding places, unless it should lead to international bimetalism, which would bring the metals to parity at the ratio of 16 to 1 and make gold and silver circulate with equal freedom. "We simply say that the threat of contraction by removing gold from circulation is idle, beI cause gold is already removed from circulation and we thus have over $800,000,000 less "currency" than is reported to be "current." As to the Maintenance of agitation and uncertainty, if the many once wrest the control of the currency I from the few, the few will never get another chance to corner it; and, knowing that, they will not attempt it The gold monometalists offer no solution of the coinage problem but fgold monometalism; wheaeas the aim and tendency of silver monometalists is toward bimetalism?they want gold tp circulate with silver, because xl?1 IKa cnnnlr nf IliiiUb W lil JUUcooo buv w money. That is why we, who are for bimetalism, go with the silver rather than the gold forces. Silver cannot be elevated without bringing it nearer to the gold level or bringing the gold nearer to its level. And so, good day. Snatched From Death. * Cold Water, Ala., Mar. 11,1802. I: To the Editor of the Dispatch: The thriving and progressive little town of Swansea has recently witnessed a happy event. Such occasions as this one I am about to mention are rarely seen. On the evening of the 27th of April, ero the sun had descended behind the western horizon, the people both far and near began to pour forth in this little village in every direction. By the time the last golden rays of the setting sun had faded away in the far distance, and mother earth began to draw the dark veil of twilight over her brow, the stars peeped forth twinkling in the far blue heavens above, the large congregation had gathered in the Baptist church to witness the event of the occasion. The church wa^ very beautifully decorated with lovely flowers of every variety and description. Around the sacred altar was tastefully arranged geraniums, etc., too numerous to mention. In front of the stand was an arch very beautifully pnfcwined with flowers and hand gg; some evergreens, which betokened the very emblem of love, peace and H happinessAt the appointed hour, or a little after, those who were on the streets and in fron^ of the church beheld in the dimness of the moonlight the procession which had called forth the occasion. Hush! The humming voices of the large crowd had now ceased when the tones of the organ sounded forth the. wedding march as the attendants, Mr. Archie Livingston and Miss Mary Gissendanner, entered the door to the left, and Mr. Leon Livingston and Miss Clara -Johnson entered the door to the right. These in turn were followed by Mr. Charlie Dowling and Miss Rosa Howell, left; Mr. F. D. Huffman and Miss Annie. Knfttts, to the right: Mr. S. Knotts and Miss Carrie Howell to left; Mr. "W. B. Fallaw and Miss Rebecca Dowling, to the right. After which came the central figures of the occasion, Dr. James L. Johnson with Miss Pinkie Huffman. This couple having taken their position under the mmmmmrnammBmmmgmammmmmamKmatemt arch garland with flowers were united in the holy bonds of matrimony by . the Rev. N. A. Herrick. The large crowd of invited relatives and friends enjoyed a moonlight ride of about four miles to the home of the bride's faiher, where all partook of a well prepared wedding feast. The occasion was unique and beautifully arranged. It was a success in every respect. The happy couple took the 3 o'clock train for Jacksonville, viaj of Savannah, to spend their honeymoon in the land of oranges and eternal flowers. Many were the happy congratula tions and heart throbs as they left for their journey. May they ever litro lives and slide through the turmoil of this old world as peacefully and gently as the pinions of the bird in her flight through the gentle zfphyrs of a lovely summer evening. May happiness be theirs through life and that j God will crown them in the end was the inaudible prayers and sincere wishes of a host of friends. Billy Flux. Gaston, S. Seizsd on the High Seas. Key West, May 1.?Reliable information has been received in this city to the effect that the schooner Competitor was captured on the high seas. On the morning of the day before the reported capture, the schooner was sighted near Sand Key light, and the wind being light and ahead, it was impossible for the schooner to get into Cuban waters. Great excitement exists in this city over the report that the crew of the illfated schooner are being executed this morning. Ec\7 to Treat a "Wife. (From Pacific Health Journal.) First, get a wife: second, be patient. You may have great trials and perplexities in your business, but do not therefore, carry to your home a cloudy or contracted brow. Your wife may have trials, which, though of less magnitude, may be hard fori; her to bear. A kind word, a tender look, will do wonders in chasing from her brow all clouds of gloom.?To this we would add always keep a bottle of Chamberlain's Cough Remedy in the bouse. It is the best and is sure to be needed sooner or later. Your wife will then know that you really care for her and wish to protect her health. For sale by J. E. Kauftman. Elliott Ifoist Go. How it "Was Dons, Federal Patronage and Chicanery Carried Michigan. "Washington, April 30.?The silver leaders do not consider the loss of Michigan as in any way affecting the situation so far as the control of the Democratic national convention is concerned. While the reports sent from that State showed a v?ry strong sentiment toward the restoration of silver, and while there is no doubt that the majority of the Democrats of that State are silver men, still the power of the administration forces there was recognized and Michigan has been considered as a State wherein a victory for free coinage" was simply a possibility?not a probability. The State is strongly Republican. There is not a ghost of a chance of a Democratic elector from Michigan. The result of the convention is regarded by the silver men here as valuable to the silver cause, for the inside story which comes from Detroit shows that the gold standardites won only by controlling men who were elected to the convention as silver men?controlled them by means of the power of the Federal administration which, it is hardly necessary to explain, Don Dickinson had solidly at his back. Dickinson and the politicians he controlled thwarted the will of the people. The same tactics are to be tried in all the States, but the people will not be caught nappiDg again. They will see to it that only genuine silver men are sent as delegates to the conventions?men who cannot be controlled by any outside influences whatever, but who will represent the will of the people.
