Full of Hardships, Exposure and
Constant Danger.

The Great Strain on a Man's Nerves
Sufficient in Itself to Wreck Him
in Short Time. The Experience
of a Well Known Motormm.
From the Cincinnati, Ohio, Enquirer.
The life of a motorman is not a
bed of roses. He is subjected to
many hardships especially in the winf|!
ter when he is exposed to the cold
and snow. Even in the summer he
must bear the intense heat which
beats down upon him. Considerable
nerve and self possession is necessary
in a good motorman, for the lives and
limbs of his passengers are at stake.
One of the best known electric motormen
in this city is William Frazer,
who is at present running a car on
the Cumminsville electric line. He
is not only well known to his fellow
employes but to the people who travel
on his car. Mr. Frazer is a young
man about twenty six years of age
and resides with his wife and child
at 144 Betts Street, Cincinnati, 0.
About a year ago Mr. Frazer was
A~T ?cfnmaoh troubles.
ILcAivt^Ll. Willi OCliuuo
He bought several kinds of medicine
which were recommended to him,
but none of them seemed to give him
even temporary benefit. An enthusiastic
admirer of that famous
remedy known as Dr. Williams'Pink
Pills for Pale People told him to try
them. Frazer was* almost discour
aged, but took the advice. To a reporter
of the Enquirer he said:
"I can most heartily recommend
Dr. Williams' Pink Pills. They are
all that is claimed for them, in fact
they advertise themselves better than
any medicine I ever saw. I was
seized some time ago with a bad at
tack of indigestion. My stomach
hurt me nearly all the time and I
could not digest my food. The pain
was almost unbearable and I found
nothing that would give me relief.
I confess that when, I bought the
first box of Pink Pills I hadn't much
confidence in their efficacy because I
had tried so many tbiDgs without I

aged. Before I had taken one box I
was decidedly better. Two boxes
cured me entirely. "While I have
been under the weather from other
causes my indigestion has never returned.
If it ever should I know
just what to do. I have so much
confidence-in the efficacy of Pink Pills
that if I ever get real sick again with i
any disorder I shall use some of them.
It is a pleasure for me I assure you
to testify to the excellent qualities of
these Pink Pills. They not only tone i
the stomach but regulate the bowels 1
and act as a mild cathartic."
Mr. Frazer's testimonial means
something. He speaks from personal
experience and any one who
doubts that he received the benefits
stated can easily verify the assertion
by calling on Mr. Frazer or seeing '
him some time while he is on his car.

The Isle of Cuba.
I England and Australia are the
I only islands that exceed Cuba in natural
resources, and the former would
not be an exception if it were not for
the riches of her prodigious deposits
of coal and iron. Under all the disadvantages
that misgovernment can
indict, and with a vast share of her
soil untouched, Cuba produces, when
not wasted by war, about one hundred
million dollars worth of sugar
and tobacco annually, and there is a
prodigal luxuriance of fruit3 and
' forests, while her mountains are
reservoirs of minerals, and her riverfi
and shores swarm with fish. There
is no more exquisite features in any
j landscape than the royal palm?, and
! the orange trees, never touched with

I is the snowy surf seas matchless in
I color, and over all the exalted arch of
I the sky, with a delicate tint of indiI
go, spotted with stars that are
I strangely brilliant, and the procesI
sion of the constellations moves with
I unutterable majesty: and one sees
I the all-searching beauty of the fimaI
ment, and finds new meaning in
I Paul's line with divine inner light

A Sad Dsath.
The old adage that "death loves a
shining mark" has been forcibly impressed
upon the minds of the people
in this community by the death of
oDe of our most esteemed young
ladies. On March the 2Itb, Miss Ida
Houck passed from this world to the
unknown. She died at the home of
her brocher-iu-law, Dr. J. L. Shuler,
with whom she has made her home
for quite a number of years. While
visiting relatives in Orangeburg, her
native county, she was exposed to
measles and returned home before
her visit was ended. She was home
but a short while when this conta
gious disease showed itself. She
was taken veiy ill. and the measles,
along with some heart trouble, soqg
proved fatal. Her vacant place iD
the family circle can never be filled.
She was a young lady of untiring energy
and perseverance, active in
domestic affairs in which she took a j
great delight. She spared no pains
to beautify and make home attractive.
Much of her time she devoted
to training the minds of the children
around the home fireside. The deep
interest she manifested in them and
the instruction they received from j
her so willingly, they will ever hold j
in grateful appreciation.
The deceased was given to God iu i
infancy by the sacred lite of baptism.
At an early age she united herself
with the Lutheran church and faithfully
lived lip to the vow8 of confirmation.
From the evidence she
gave her pastor a short while before
her death, we have the blessed assurance
that she has joiued her
sainted mother, who preceded her to
the spirit land only a few years ago,
and who stands with "beautiful beckoning
hands"' to welcome her loved
to that home prepared for the people
of God.
Iu her death St. Michael's church
Las lost a true Christian member;
the Sunday school a faithful scholar;
and the Woman's Missionary society
a zealous worker. At the time of her
death she was treasurer of the
society, which has sustained a great
loss. As individuals they utter from
their sad hearts these words:
Dearert sister, thou ha;t left us;
Here thy loss we deeply feel;
But 'tis God who hath btrclt us;
He can all our sorrows heal."
Death is at all times sad, but when
one in the prime of life is taken from
us it is peculiarly sad.
Truly do the ways of Providence
seem mysterious to us, but we know
that God deals unerringly with bis
creatures. He calls them one by
one from this transitory life to that
home where no trouble enters, and
the weary are at rest.
The funeral services of our departed
friend were held at St.
Michael's church on Thursday morning.
Her pastor, Rev. W. A. Deaton, j
preached a very appropriate sermon
to a large number of sorrowing
friends who assembled to pay the \
last tribute of respect to the deceased.
The large oongregation present on ,
this sad occasion gave evidence of !
the Viicrh esteem in which the de- I
ceased was held. Her remains were
laid to rest in the family square by
the side of her paients where she
will rest until that day for which all
other days were made.

Tillman's Rod Hot Speech.
He Stirs Up Kansas to a High Pitch
of Excitement.
Wichita, Kan., April 17.?An immense
audience greeted Senator Tillman,
who spoke here tonight. ISxGovernor
Lewelling introduced the
speaker, who made the reddest and
hottest speech ever made here. He
said that the Republican who voted
for Cleveland for a change jumped
from the frying pan into the fire, and
that it was the hottest fire that they
ever saw. He said Cleveland was a
"tin god," and an animal with a
cloven foot. He said that Carlisle
was so deep in infamy that he did
not want to speak about him. The
people fairly went wild when he said
that no man cold be appointed to tl e
Supreme Court unless he was known
to be friendly to the corporations.
He said that if the Democratic coi vent
ion at Chicago did not declare
for free silver, he would pick up his
hat and leave the party. He was especially
bitter against the lawyers in
Congress, and did not hesitate to say
that while many of them were paid
by the people they were paid better
by the corporations and worked for
those who paid the best. - He appealed
to the Populists to vote for
the Democratic party, if it declared
for free silver and succeed in driving
Cleveland and Carlisle into the
Republican party, where they belonged.
He made a dariDg, courageous
and bitter speech and was ap
plauded vociferously.
At the end of his speech nearly
every man in the audience raised his
right hand to indicate that he was for
free silver at the ratio of 16 to 1.
