The Court consumed Monday morn- j
ing waiting on absentees. In the afternoon
the case of Litzsey and
others vs. the Columbia Canal Co.,
was taken up, and the balance of the
day and all of Tuesday was con- {
sumed in hearing arguments in sup- j
port of a demurrer. The Judge sustained
the demurrer and the plain- J
tiffs gave notice of an appeal. As {

Justice Wingard, and the evidence
not being sufficient to hold them,
they were dismissed.
An animated discussion between
an old bachelor aud two charming
young belles was overheard last Sunday
afternoon, in which he contended
that he was a rose between two
thorns, while they maintained that
he was a thorn between two roses.
Had the question been left to our
decision we would have said he was
an ugly bachelor button over which
two beautiful wall flowers were contending.
The free school patrons of District
No. 10 having petitioned the Board
of Examiners to divide the district
into three separate school districts,
the Board met on Saturday to consider
the petition, but without coming
to a decision, it adjourned until
Saturday, the 21st inst., when the
hearing will be resumed.

All property shall be valued for
taxation at its true value in money,
which, in all cases not specially provided
for by law, shall be held to be
as follows, to wit: For personal property,
