A deplorable ami unfortunate shooting affair occurred in this county, near the old JJetsy (trim place ou Twelve Mile creek, a few miles from Lewiedale, last Wednesday af teruoon, in which tin- life blood of a mortal being stained the earth and a soul sent prematurely to meet its maker, while the slayer languishes in jail awaiting to answer at the bar of his country to the charge of murder. On the day mentioned above Mr. Perry Hall while walking along the road on his way to his mill, met Mr. 1). L. The following account is about the facts as adduced at the inquest. When Mr. Hall met Mr. Smith he walked out of the road, and Mr. Smith rail after Mr. Hall through the woods for about three hundred yards, when Mr. Hall looked back and saw that Smith was gaining ground on him. Hall thought Smith was armed with a shot gun, but it was a hickory stick. Smith said to Hall: 'T)?u you, 1 have got you this time," placing bis band on his hip pocket. Hall then shot Smith while running. Coroner James If. ho lds wasnoti tied of the killing and in company with Dr. C. E. Leaphart went to the scene of the shooting Thursday morning.
