Skull's wife had to leave her house and go to her son's, who lives near the woods, for protection from the great dust which the wind raised. Woods fires have been very numerous in this section this spring. The nearest one to us was that which leaped from Mr. A. B. Taylor's new ground. Little damage was done except to timber. L. church the 2nd Sunday in May, at 12 a. m. Is the road law a fair one or is it unfair 1 Is it fair for the people in the piney woods and other hard, rough sections to work from 8 to l'J days in a year on the public high ways and those in the sand hills only one and two days ? No there is no equality about it, and the only way to get it on an equal is to tax the people instead of warning them out to work on the road. The Board of Trustees of Clem-1 July G. The question of electing a resident physician caused much discussion and forty-six ballots. There were thirty applicants for the place but finally Dr. T. J. Redferne, of Chesterfield was chosen. Mr. J. K. Wright, was Laurens, elected foreman of the iron depart ment of the shops. He has been in this business for many years. Mr. Litton, who has heretofore been doing the woodwork on the buildings, was elected as superintendent of the mechanical department. Mrs. Fitzgerald of Newberry was elected nurse and matron. A resolution was passed ordering a more extended prospectus. It will give fuller information about the College than has heretofore been published. All desiring a copy may get them by applying to Professor Neuraan at Fort Hill. On July 27 the State Alliance will visit the College and will spend one day there. The Trustees will, ex tend a cordial welcome to the members, and will do all in their power to make the visit a pleasant one. An effort will also be made to get some distinguished speaker, and it is hoped > that Congressman Hatch can be secured. * " f - Ail tne proiessors are reijucaicu and expected to be at Fort Hill on June 20th to arrange about rooms, classes, etc. The Board did not elect a President at this meeting. The matter of the selection of an available man was left to a committee, which will report at the meeting to be held the first Wednesday in June. Slightly Exaggerated. The county dispensary is as yet an unsettled problem at Manning as weii as many other places in the State, as the citizens refuse to sign petitions for its establishment.
