"Well-Known Resident of Clarendon County Foully Murdered. Sumter, S. C., March 21.?The news of the murder of Mr. Butler Dubose, a young white man living in I the country, near Packsville, created j considerable excitement in Sumter today. The facts, asfar as can be as- i certained by your correspondent from j gentlemen living in the neighbor- | hood of the killing are as follows: Mr. Butler Dubose and his father, Mr. Eli Dubose, were in Sumter last Saturday, 19th inst, and left the city together in a baggy. When they reached Mr. Eli Dudosa's house Mr. Butler Dubose, his son, remained there for supper, not being more than a mile or so from his own home. About 9 o'clock p. m. Butler Dubose and his son, who is about 12 years old, started to go home from Mr. Eli Dubose's house in a buggy. When not far from his father's house Mr. Dubose turned out of the public road into a neighborhood road. After going a short distance, Mr. Dubose's son remarked to him that he heard some one walking in the bushes. Just as Mr. Dubose looked ^ up a shot was fired from the bushes. M. Dubose was struck by the slugs, one ^iot striking him centrally in the forehead, another in the chest and the third slug took effect in his left chest near the heart Afr i jr* " " " """ i Dabose's son turned the horse and buggy around and proceeded bachto his grandfather's house, and in turning claims to have seen and recognized Mr. Carson Stukes. Mr. Butler Dubose died before reaching hi3 fathers house. Tour correspondent was told that there had been bad blood between the Dubose's and Stukes' for some time and that the I coroner's jury had returned a verdict as near as can be got at, as follows: "That the decased came to bis death from gunshot wounds fired from a gun in the hands of Carson / Stukes, and that his son Stukes, was an accessory to the killing.'' j It is also rumored that a woman j has been arrested in connection with j the killing. The above facts were given your correspondent by parties who claim to heard them. Nothing oi a aenmte or omcial nature has ^ been received up to this writing. But the mother said, "It is my treasure, my best beloved. My heart is so bound around its roots that if you separate us she will droop and I shall ; be cruelly torn." And Death sighed j and the mother wept. The grief of |p^ the mother touched the Son of God ' He bent over her and whispered, ! "Give me thine heart, and then will j thy Flower be transplanted in its j f ill freshness and neither." But the ; mother said, B my heart will break." Death sighed j and the mother wept. I put it's roots around thy heart so that when I tool back my own, I would have thj heart also.?Give both to me." Anc the mother seeing she could nc longer protect her Flower, and fearing to bruise or sully it's pure leaves, gave her whole heart to God, and with it the perfect Flower. Till then, grieve not, but trust in me.v The B&ni-Mestze Cass. It having been found impossible to conclude the arguments before the Master in the Commercial Bank case in time to get the case in at this term of court, the hearings have been suspended. The case will therefore not come before the court until July term. This case in numerous respects stand by itseli and is unparalleled not only in this County, but it is believed in this portion of the State. In the amount involved, in the immense volume of testimony taken and the length of arguments made before the Master, it is certainly remarkable. The type-written copy of the testimony or rather thin type-writer paper makes a pile almost half as thick as an unabridged -dictionary. Two attorneys have each spoken portions of four days each, and at least six more wish to be heard from three weeks being believed to be the Least time in which the presentation of argument can be concluded. One of the attorney's for the bank has prepared an outline of what his side claims should be the finding or report of the Master as to matters of fact, with forty three items. The jther side are said to have a similar ioeument with fifty items.
