As a result of a controversy over an advertisement inserted in the Columbia Register, Dr. Sampon Pope*, Clerk of the Senate, N. G. Gonzales, Editor of the Slate, Gen. : Gray Clerk of the House, and Mr. A. E. Gonzales got into a personal incounter in the lobby of the Grand Central Hotel in Columbia, last night. The two first named came to blows and clinched but were parted by bystanders before either received any injury. Insulting words only passed between the two last named. Edgefield Prisoners Plan tc Kill the Jailer and Escape. Augusta, Ga., Nov.20 ?Nineteen negro prisoners in the Edgefield, 1 S. C., jail, seventeen sentenced to the penitentiary and two under sen tenced of death, planned a scheme to kill the jailer and make their escape last night. They were going to murder the jailer with clubs when he came up to give them supper. A negro prisoner, who had only three months sentence to serve, gave the prisoners away, and told the jailor of their plan to murder him at supper. The jailor, with his sons, went up stairs, well armed, and found the prisoners ready for the attack- They were cowered down at the point cf the pistol, and placed in dungeons. Bucklen s Arnica balve. At a meeting of the Alliancemen and laboring men of this city, says the Columbia Register of the 24th held on last Monday night, a committee was appointed to make arrangements for a mass meeting to be held on Tiiursday mgnt in tne hall of the House of Representatives..
