The Republican Rally. Columbia Register. A call for a {Republican State Convention, 1890, has been issued from the rooms of the Republican State Executive Committee, dated Colum bia, S. C., August 15th, 1890, to j meet at Columbia, S. C., on Wednes- j day, the 17th, day of September j next, at 12 M., to elect an Executive j Committee for the State, and to j transact such other business as may J be deemed advisable. It is signed j by Ellery M. Brayton, Chairman, and j by John A. Barre, Secretary. "Such other business as may be I deemed advisable, may include the j putting up a Republican State ticket, although the lights of the party admit that this as a very remote possibility, depending on a split in the Democratic party. It is more likely that it refers to a fight for county O v offices in some counties where they deem that they have a fighting j chance. The scramble for Congressional j places in several of the lower districts j of the State, with the hope of being j ruled in by the Reed process, will j perhaps engross all their attention ! and effort and leave them little j chance for aggressive State movements.
