Letter from Conover, IT. C.
Mr. Editor : Please allow me space
in your valuable paper to give your
readers a description of Conover and
the surrounding country, and also of
the college here. Conover is a beautiful
town, situated in a fine agricultural
region in the centre c f Catawba county,
on the Western North Carolina, and
the Chester and Lenoir Narrow Guage
Railroads, which makes it easily accessible
from all points. The lands
around here are fertile and productive.
Wheat is the chief staple for export
and is cultivated to a considerable extent
Clover is also grown and serves
as a most important food for stock
raising Besides these there are other
products cultivated to a considerable
extent, such as corn, cotton, tobacco, I
etc.
The Blue Ridge lie north from here
and are easily perceptable f rom this
point. These give us a fine mountain
scenery.
This country is a healty one, fiee
from' chills and fevers and other malig
nant diseases. We have an abundant
supply, of gcod water.
Among the industries of Conover
are: A sash, door and blind manufactory,
which is a.great accommodation
for building purposes- The Conover
Flouring Mills, which are run steadily
?very day, excepicSunday, from Christmas
to Christinas *' This shows that
there js an abundance of wheat raised
in_the surrounding country. A saw
mill, and se\tf*almercantile houses,
that crary oif'an extensive business.

Among the-many advantages
which Concorcfia College .offer, we may
mention, besides cheap tuition, thg extremely
cheap board. Table board
can be abtained here in private fami- lies

these facts and inducements, we can

If you wish to drive the boys from f
the farm send them out to cut green \

they must get up at five o'clock in the

Send them out to milk by lantern

cold winds are blowing through the

to water and be obliged to chop a hole
in the ice in order tor let them drink.
Let them carry water up a hill the

them turn the grind stone for hours.
Send them out to pull wool from the
