Tlic Veterans' Pic-Nic. I
The reunion and pie-nic of the
vetorans of Lancaster county at
Dixie last Thursday was the grandest
affair in the history of Dixie
and one of the largest in the history
of the county. It is estimated
that 3,000 people were in at- 1
tendance, and more than 100 vet- t.
crans, by actual count, were in ?
ranks in the procession. Mr. W.
G. A. Porter was in command and
was master of ceremonies during
i lit- uiij , hill (HiuciIH; 1110 SpeHKOl'H,
etc. Judge Jones' speech in the
forenoon was admirable, as was
also the speech of congressman
Finle? in the afternoon end the
spe ?h of t\Ir. (-too. W. Jones.
As to the dinner, it was excellent
and in abundance. As many
more could have satiated their ap
pet it os and then there would have
been baskets fuP to have gathered
up. The day was indeed an en
joyablo one to everybody present
and many are the compliments being
paid to trie management and to
the Dixie community on the
splendid order and general success
of the occasion, not the slightest
thing occurring to roar the pleasure
of anyone in that linmenso
throng of 3,000 souls.
