Negroes Confessed to Arson.

a severe loss by lire yesterday
morning.
About 1 o'clock lire was discovered
in one of the outbuildings
and two barns, two cribs, 200
bushels of corn, 4,000 bundles of
fodder, buggy and wagon, four 01
five tons of hay, fanning tools,
etc., were destroyed. The loss
is $1,500 or $2,000. It was
suspected at once that the lire was
of incendiary origin.
Mr. McAdams phoned the circumstances
to Sheriff Green, who
at once sent Deputy Sheriff Dillingham
to the scene with two
blood houuds. By clever detcc
tive work he caught two negro
men and a negro woman. They
soon made a full confession, and
were taken at once to Abbeville
and placed behind the bars
Hurrah for Batesburg.
Batesburg, May '24.?Special:
Batesburg had two-elections today
one to elect two wardens and one
to vote on a a proposition to bond
the town in a sum not exceeding
$20,000 for water -work-, electric
lights and general road improvements.
The result of the lirst
election, K. It. Stedman and
\V. A. Crouch as wardens. The
bond issue was carried by a vote
of 75 to 18. The following commissioners
were olected to arrange
for issuing the bonds, etc. The
