Funderburk, , also came over from Chesterfield to see him. ?Mrs. Charles Lynn, who has been visiting relatives in Lancas- ' te**, passed through Wednesday ( .morning on her return to her home < in Columbia. She was accom- ' panied by her sister-in-law, Miss Mary Lynn, and niece, Jaunita 1 So well.?Chester Lantern. ?Considerable hail fell in the Western portion of the county last Monday afternoon. It was ac? companied by a heavy wind which laid fences down and at Mr. O. H Bell's blew his wagon from under the gin house nearly one hundred yards. Miller's con* dition. He has partially recovered his speech. Miss Bailey, a trained nurse from Charlotte, arrived Sunday and will remain with him as long as her services are required. ? Mr. T. It. Small's horse hecame frightened and ran away with him last Friday afternoon near the Baptist parsonage. Mr. Small and his son woro both thrown out of the buggy and the former received a bad cut about the forehead,thought to have been made by a piece of the dashboard, which the horso kicked ofl, striking him. ?Among the graduates in medicine frem the medical college of Virginia at Richmond the past week was Mr. C. A. Foster of this placo. Mr. Foster is a son of the late Dr. J. H. Foster and wo bespeak for him a brilliant career in his chosen profession. He is expected home in a few days and will probably locate in ihe county. ?Mr. Ed. D. Cunningham, son of our townsman, Mr. W. J. Cunningham, is expected home the latter part of this week. Since his return from serrico in the Philippines he has been under treatment in a U. S. hospital in New Mexico. His condition has not improved materially. He reached New Orleans several days ago and will resume his trip homeward tomorrow. ? 38 members of Camp Dixie, in addition to the fire delegates and sponsor, have signified their intention of attending the State reunion U. C. V., to be held in Charleston 17th, 18th and 19th instant. ?Congressman Finlev. w? tr? n -"J 1 informed, has secured the promise of the government authorities to make a soil survey of Lancaster county and that the work will he begun at an early day. ?Camp Dixie, U. C. V., met] u?i6 yesterday and elected Messrs. W. B. Bruce and Geo. W. Jones ilelegates to the U. C. V. reunion to be held at Nashville next month. Langloy, formerly of the Antioch section hut who has boon living near Lindsay this ycur, died last Friday, May 6, 1904, of dropsy. Mr. Lsngley was about 60 years of age and was a well known (Confederate veteran of the county. Ho served throug the war in Co. 1., 12th S. C. Regt., and was a brave and fearless soldier. He was twice wounded in battle, on one occasion being left on tho field for dead by his comrades when a heavy rain during tho night, it is said, revived him and saved his life. Mr. Langley is survived by his widow and five or six children. His remains were interred at Gills Creek gravo yard on Saturday. ?The following is taken from the Lancaster correspondence of the News and Courier: Mr M. C. Gardner, a successful farmer of Flat Creek Township, has a remarkable record for the discharge of his poHtical and other public duties. It too frequently happens that men on account of their private affairs will dodge jury duty and stay away from club meetings and conventions, but such is not the case with Mr Gardner. He has ever made it a rule never to allow his business and farming interests to interfere with the discharge of bis obligation as a citizen. He has attended as a delegate from his club every Democratic convention that has been^held in Lancaster in twenty eight years, notwithstanding he lives over twenty milesfrom the court house. Nor has he ever failed to attend a meeting of his club, of which he has been president for twenty six years. The beautiful monument recently erected to tho late and lamented H. W. Broom in the cemetery at Waxhaw Baptist church, will be unveiled with ap propriate ceremonies by the W. O. W. on ihe 5th Sunday in this month at 11 o'clock. There will be a sermon by tome able minister yet to be selected, but there ?i!l nf rouurse be no picnic or other oxercises beyond the simple but impressive religious ceremony at the grave, and the sermon.?
