The Yorkville Enquirer, of
the 16tb instant, says :
'Eight complaints were lodged
with the sheriff during Wednesday
and yesterday, all claiming
damages against the Southern
railway in amounts ratifin^ from

$5,000 to $50,000, for the breaking
of bones, injury to health,
and the destruction of life.
In at least one case N. M.
Stukss, section master is made
a co defendant, with the Southern
railway, and in all cases the
complaints attribute the falling
in of the trestle to gro?9 carelessaess
and wrecklessuess, etc., of
the railroad people and to the
rotten condition of the structure.
The plaintiffs in the various
aotions commenced Wednesday
and yesterday together with
their attorneys and the amounts
sued for are as follows:

Millar, colored, deceased, wants
120,000. Miller was killed in
the wreck. The plaintiff is reprapraaanted

Hart and Messrs Wilson and

wants $50,000, ou account of injuries.

army, who has been in charge of
the local recruiting oflice for the
army, raised a check from #68.50
to *46S.50 two weeks ago, and
absconded. His whereabouts
have since been a mystery, although
the government officers
are on the lookout for him. This
action of Dnrrell has been kept
very quiet, but it leaked out today.
CHILD RUN OVER HY TRAIN.
Anderson, Oct. 15. ? A. 2 yearold
child of Mr. ,J. J. Kelly, who
lives three miles above Helton,
was run over this afternoon bv
the through freight train on the
Columbia and Greenville railroad
The child was playing on the track
and the engineer did not see it
until too late to stop.
The engine and tender passed
over its body, but. the child was
between the rails and perhaps was
not fatally injured. Jt was
bruised considerably and one leg
is broken, and was unconscious at
o'clock tonight, but physicians
who were >n attendance were in i
hopes that it would recover. The]
home of the child's parents is
within 100 yards of the railroad
track.

did not approve the Lexington
verdict.

jury and two bailiffs for 17 days
amounted to $23L25.
?The Lexington court forgot
all about trying Tillman on the
second count of the indictment,
brought by the grand jury, the
charge of carrying concealed wea~
pons. And it is just as well. If
he was licensed to do murder he
