Mrs Foster Makes A Valuable j
Contribution to the Confederate
War ltccorris Oilicc.
Mrs. L. B. Foster, of this '
place, lias completed the arduous
task of compiling a roster of com- 1
panics and wi iting a history of the 1
Lancaster eomtnands in tbo Con '
federate service. This work she* '
undertook about a year ago as
Historian of the Lancaster Chap- '
ter C. I). C. How well the work '
has been done can tie gathered ^
from the following item taken
from the Columbia State of Thursday
:
A very valuable compilation of
i.uiueueruiu war recorus uas DOcn
received at the ollice of the com- 1
missioner of Con federate rolls.
The records were sent l>y Mrs.
Lottie 15. Foster of Lancaster, and
were compiled from authentic
sources during and directly after
the Civil war. It contains a complete
history of the gallant men
from Lancaster county who defended
the "Southern Cause."
The compilation contains 22s
closely written pages, and if printed
would make a large volume. In
addition to the history and roster
of the men who served from Lancaster
county, it contains other ,
very valuable information concerning
the movements of both
the Confederate and Fodc-al ar
mios in South Carolina.
Too nuu'h praiso cannot be given
Mrs. Foster for the noble work
she lias dono in preserving and recording
this important historical
data.
