two teachers the next term.
We are glad to see good schools
being established in every section
of the county.
?Owing to a washout on the
Southern near Claremout, below
Camden, the Northbound train
Thursday,due here at 6:49 p. m.,
did not pass until between 1 and 2
o'clock a. ui., Friday. The trama
yesterday were also belated. Very
heavy rains are reported in the
Claremont section. One man it
said to have had 500 acres of bottom
land cotton washed away.
?The pic nic of the Lancastei
Sunday school at Heath 6pringe
last Wednesday was most delight
ful. The place, the excellent
mineral water, the kind and hospitable
people of that thriving
little town, makes Heath Springe

pic-nic. All enjoyed the day tc
the fullest and regretted the}
could not stay longer. There
was no accident or anything tc
mar the pleasure of the day. There
were two baseball games during
the day. The Lancaster and
Kershaw juvenile nines crossed
bats in the forenoon] with the
result that Lancaster was badly
beaten. In the afternoon Lancaster
and Heath Springs played
a very close game. Lancaster ex
tends thanks to tho good and
clever people of Heath Springs,
for the many kindnesses shown.

relief of the sufferers from the
flood at the mills in Spartanburg <
county amounted to $200. Of 1
this amount Col. Springs gave '

already in hand were sufficient
brought Col. Springs to a halt in
his canvass to raise $500. in this
county. Ho doubtless would
easily have raised that amount for
he found general and liberal response
from all whom he saw. 1

died last Saturday at the home'of
her nephew Esq. Win. McWhorter,
of Jackson township. "Aunt
Katie," as she was called in her
neighborhood, was 89 years old j
and was a good woman. She was i

report that the total stor m loss in
that county will amount to $3,
855,000. This does not includa
the loss caused by the suspension
of work in the mills, or the
damage to the railroads from interrupted
traffic. More than sixty
mill operatives perished in the
storm. No money can pay for these
lives.

which is of Georgia Granite anil a

this monument with the beautiful

Georgia granite is good, but
we believe we have granite equally
as good within sight of Van
Wyck station. The only thing
needed to bring it to notico and
use, is to havo our quarries developed.
