THK LF.DGrfR. F TMiurlow 3. Carter, KDITOU AND MANAdl'P. ' wrdnksday, .jink 1??, ipott. | For The Ledger. Sensible Observations on the 1 in < provement of Our Schools. a Mr. E niTou: Being desirous | to help the cause of education in j our county, I would like to en- f courage and insist upon all our teachers who possibly can, to attend our County summer school, ( which begins at Laucustor Monday, tho 8th of June, or the State summer school which begins at Rock Hill two weeks , v later. c These schools are held for the betterment of our teachers, and it is an advanced step in the t| educational progress of our country, that every live, energetic , teacher, who has tho good of his ^ neighbor's children and the advancement of the cause of edu 4, cation in our home land at heart, , t' should not fail to avail himself ^ of. o Parents and trustees, see that your teacher has a desire to do better wo"k and enough interest (j in your children's advancement ^ to attend one of these schools; and if you have not yet elected u a teacher, it would be well to j( elect on condition of attendance on ODe of these schools. The teacher who tells you our j, summer schools are no good, is ^ a back nurabor, and should not u be admitted to the care of your ^ precious little ones ; for the teacher who tries it, and does not de- j, rive benefit from a summer 1. school, is undoubtedly too dull t] to teach. tj I am sincerely sorry for the i, the teacher who can't attend ono ,, of these schools; and I pitv the j, community that has a teacher j; who does uot try to keep pace ,, with the progress of our times. 1 [\ The average teacher will, I j ci think, derive as much practical h help, if not more, from our u County summer school ; but to f< the advanced teacher, aud to n those who have been attending n our schools for years, and are s( prepared for deep thinking, tliey n will find the courso at Ilock Hill v very helpful. The association, too, with so many of our best and most cultured teachers, should be an incentive to any one to better work and higher j.; aims iu life. T. M. BELK. TEN YEARS ZN BED. K. A. Gray, .1. 1'., Gakville. lnd., writes, "For ten years 1 was K confined to my bed with disease h of my kidneys. It was so severe that 1 could not move part of the ^ time.
