Clinkscales had about six months ^ more to serve as a convict. ,, h at AN AGED MAN SHOT TO DEATH. . m JohnstoD, April 13.?T his morning about six miles from here in Saluda county Mr. John Shaver was shot and killed by Rufus Dursl, a young white man. It appears from the information obtained up to this writing that Durst wanted Shaver's son, who, with bis father, was a tenant working on shares on Durst'a _. father's farm, to work in the lat- ** ter'a field. Shaver explained that ^ uia son naa 10 go away for a part of the day. It seems that Durst became infuriated. Hot words ^ passed and Durst pulled his pistol ^" and Bred, killing old man Shaver, whose age was about 70 years. ^ It is said Durst claims that the re victim made at him with a sprout- . ci ing ax. Mr. J. (J. Coit, the first presiat of the Farmers' Alliance Exango, has filed a claim against > organization for $548 for balce of salary alleged to be due. r.
