The women who wero victimized
by those cherry tree swindlers
will not get hack it dollar of
their money, and this is the
hardest feature of the case.
Under the order of the court,
tho #5,000 which the defendants
had paid to the clerk was to bo
refunded to them, hut applied to
he payment of the costs and fines.
1'ho costs amount to #1,400 and
he linos to #3,000. The remain
ler, #000, is to go to the Treasury
of tho United States.
So ends the case of the endless
otter chain cherry tree swindle.

Fort Mill, S. C., Dec. 15.?
John Williams and Jim Brown,
two negro employes at tho power
dam, near here, became involved
in a quarrel over a debt Saturday
mid the former wus shot by the

wound will uot prove faud.
Brown was arrested and lodged
in the guardhouse here.
Through a peculiar accident, Mr
J. II. Sutton, a farmer near here,
lost two lino mules Saturday. His
wagon loaded with 500 pounds of
cement was going down a steep
hill at the Catawba Power Com
pany's works when the lock chain
broke. The wagon rushed to tho
bottom of the hill, carrying the
two mules before it. Fortunate
ly two other mules which wore
hitched to the wagon had been
detached at tho top of the hill.
