which held options on practically
all the tract, made the same,
WiscocsiD capitalists being the
purchasers. Charles J. Winston,
Charles J. Gilbert, Neal Brown
and J. H. Koohler are among the
largest holders in the new purchaso.
It is the intention of the pro.
posed new company to divide the
l.ind into 40-acre tracts, building
homes thereon and locating several
large saw mills. Several
hundred families will be located
on the land before spring it is
said. The promoters of the
scheme have organized center
colonies and effected development
in Wisconsin, Minnesota and
California, and great things are
expected of them in Western Alabama.
A stretch of railroad will
be built right away through the
belt of land and will connect with
the 'Friscoand Southern railroads
at Jasper, Ala. It is estimated
that there are 200,000,000 feet of
lumber on the land purchased. It
is stated that after the timber bus
r been cut off the land, it will be,
:or rather most of it, will bo admirably
adapted to agricultural
pursuits.

The fact that it is the best

A $500,006 Fire In Atlanta.
Atlanta, Dec. 9.?Fire to-day
in the heart of the down town section
of Atlanta wiped out almost
a block of business houses, causing
a loss estimated between $400,000
and $500,000.
The fire originated in the furniture
store of Snook & Austin. It
spread with great rapidity to the
Norcross building, a structure on
the corner of Peachtree and Ma
rietta streets, whose six stories
were largely taken up with the
offices of physicians, dentists and
attorneys. The Norcross building
and the Snook building were
entirely consumed, only portions
of the walls remaining. The
building occupied by the Jacobs
Pharmacy Company, adjoining
the Norcross building, on Marietta
street, was completely gutted
and the Jacobs Company and
the Snook Company sustained the
heaviest individual dosses of the
fire.
