Spartanburg, Dec 3.?Mr. G.
Hugh Solesbce, an aged and ro
speeded citizen of Mount Zion,
near Clifton, met with a tragic
deatli this afternoon shortly bofore
2 o'clock. Ho was driving
a one horse wagon to which a
mule was hitch'd, along the public
road; his little grandson was
in the wagon. As the team proceeded
leisurely along to the railroad
crossing at Mount Zion, the
southbound vestibule, N d. 37,
due here at 11.32 a. in., and over
two hours late, was speeding
along. The child heard the approach
of the train and jumped
from tho wagon. Mr. Solesbee,
who is aged and whose hearing
is defective, attempted to cross
the track. The engineer on the
vestibule siw the man driving on,
and blew the whistle?then at a
distance of 200 yards, it is said.
The mule managed to get across
tho track before tho locomotive
reached tho crossing, but Mr.
Solesbce, was struck ai d horribly
crushed. Deatli must have been
instantaneous.
