Saui-Witherspoon, colored, whose homo was about a quarter of a mile northwest of the old Oakland pavilion and who developed the disease of smallpox last Thursday, died Friday after we had gone to press. Tho remains wore buried Friday night. Tlere is still another smallpox cnso in town, the patient being Hannah Jones, colored. She is attended by Dr. .1. E Massoy, Sr., and is doing very well. The inmates of the house in which she lives are in quarantine and there is not much fear of tho disease spreading from there.?-Rock llill Iler aid New State Law Will Make Christmas Less Noisy. The dealers in fireworks are not buying cannon crackers and bombs for the holiday trade this year, though it i- >ni 1 that there is a loophole by which the\ could. 1'he new State law prohibits the sale of any firecracker over three inches in length or one half inch in diameter, under penalty of dO days on the gang or a tine of $100, and absolutely prohibits the sale of bombs. This being the law, and the merchants observing it, the Christmas celebration in South Carolina this year will doubtless bo very much less noisy than in the past decade. ?The State. Cantrell, a farmer from the upper part of the county, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Clyde this morning of the charge of selling diseased meat and was sentenced to pay a fine of $25. The boy was somewhat demented and left his home several weeks ago, and when last seen ho was on the road, to Pelham His parents are Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Moore, who live at the Victor mills, and on the disappearance of their son tho fact was advertised by circulars and in newspapers, but no tidings were received by thorn until Mr. L. S. Brown found tho body of 1 their son on Friday afternoon. THREE MEN .CHARGED WITH MURDER TO HAVE I.IRERTY. Greenville, Nov. 20. ? In the case of Carey Styles and Emory Styles, charged with the murder i of Walter McCarrell on the day of the campaign meeting at Highland, .Judge Watts has allowed bail in the sum of $3,000 for Cao rey Styles and $500 for Emory Styles. Tho I ond in this rnsn has not been given, but it is ex pected the defendants will be released on bail today. In the case of M. Poinsett , Tranunell, charged with the miir- j der of Ben Rose at a corn shucking last month, Judge Watts granted bail in the sum of $1,000, which was readily furnished and Trammel I has gone to his' home. I)I{. COI.KMAN ANI> MR. I.YLES SHOOT Newberry, Nov. 25.?News was received here tonight that Dr. ! Coleman and Mr. Will Lyles, prominent white men living at Maybinton, this county, near the Union line, became engaged in a difficulty this morning in which both were shot and seriously wounded. Mr. Lyles received four bullets in the bowels, and Dr. Coleman was shot in the chest. The weapons used were . revolvers. It appears that the difficulty was the direct result of a dispute between the parties last night. No further particulars could be obtained. CAPTURED IN TENNESSEE. Union, Nov. 25.?A telegram was received hero today from C. E. Sanders at Lafollotte, Tonn., saying that one Vard Gist, who murdered Will Beaty about nine years ago and left tho State, had been arrested and will be brought here toinoirow. _ l>U. HoI.CO.MIlF. J am glad to say that Dr. and Mrs. Holcombe came in on the same train with the paper on Sunday and aro now with Capt. B. L. Montgomery, the father of Dr. Montgomery, two miles from town. Dr. Holcombe, being interviewed, says that ho was astonished when he saw tho account in the paper and that there is not a particle of truth in tho statement. Dr. and Mrs. Holcombe ' remain with Capt.
