Many of otu townsmen wore attracted by a fire in a Northerly direction from town about 10 t 1 * " o ciocx last Saturday night and supposed it was not more than live or six miles off, but it turned out to he the ginning and milling plant of C. Broom & Sons at Waxhaw. The fire stalled in the engine room of the plant shortly 1 after 9 o'clock and by 11 o'clock the entire concern, including a I grist and planing mill, was burned to the ground. Methodist Church, Lancaster, S. C. l>entli of ati K*timable Lady. Mrs. Clara Craig, wifo of Mr. John W. Cruig of the Craigville section and a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. K. A. Smith of York county, died last Sunday evening after a short illness of malarial fever. She was about 29 years of age and loaves her husband and four children surviving her. Her parents, a sister and two brothers also stir vivo. her. Mrs. Craig was a most estimable lady and her death is sadly lamented not only by the grief-stricken relatives hut by the entire comaiunity in which she lived. She was a member of Shiloh A. It. P. church and a devout christian. Her remains were interred in Shiloh church yard Monday afternoon after services conducted by her . pa&tor, the Rev. W.C. Ewart. Death of Mr. Wra. Kuight. Mr. Wra. Knight, an aged and respected citizen of Cedar Crook tow nship, died last Monday night, aged about 82 years. Mr. Knight was for years tho miller at Welsh's mill, near towD, and was well kno vn and esteemed for the rectitude of his life. For more than a year ho has been a great sufferer from Blight's diseascydfful his death was not unexpected. Ho leaves six children, all grown and married, surviving him. Ills good wife died only a few months ago. Mr. Knight served in the Confederate army, was a member of the 1st S. C. regular infantry and made a good soldier. He was a member of tho Lancaster Baptist church and the funeral sorvieo wus conducted by his pastor, Dr. J. H. Boldridge, at Douglas church where his remains wore interred yesterday afternoon. ?Our Mr.,,J. M. Hood is always in the market to purchase -mules and cuttle. Only u few weeks ago and ' ho moved in our midst the happiest, most cheerful aud congenial of our young townsmen, lie had a smile and a pleasant word for everyone. Jt is hard to realize that bis bright young spirit has departed hence. His death orcuretl last Friday night at his father's homo at Heath Springs where ho had gone only about ten days before on account of illness, which proved to bo typhoid fever. The sad news of his death was I telephoned here that night, and i as it spread over the town occa sioned deep sorrow in the hearts of the many friends ho made while here.
