A Potato Thief In Limbo.
J. T. Green, Esq., has-been
missing sweet potatoes from his
| patch the past week or so. Wednesday
morning he saw fresh
tracks in the patch and concluded
' to try the blood hounds on the
? trail. The dogs scented the
9 tracks to the home of Moses Mc*
Clure, col., about two miles west
of town. Moses was at work on
I the railroad some distance off and
- when he saw the dogs go to bis
* house he dropped his shovel and
took to the woods, thereby showt
ing guilt. He was soon run down
, and taken in charge by Constable
f Connor, Policeman Knight and
Mr. Green, who had followed the
5 dogs. He made a full confession
j' when captured and is now in jail
r awaiting trial at the next term of
| court on the chat ge of stealing *

Flat Creok section of Lancaster
county, came to the city last Friday
afternoon, his mission being
in search of his daughter, Almeta.
It seems that a young man by 1
the name of Thurlow Castou had ^
been paying the young lady conQ1

few nights previous to Mr. Rob
ertson's arrival in the city. Caston
called again, and, as the story
goes, was 6omewhat under the
influence of whiskoy, when-Mr.
Robertson ordered him to leave J
his house. This he did, br.t re- ?J
turned the next night and enticed
the girl from her home. They
drove to Lancaster, where the
young lady boarded the train the |
next day for this city, Caston arriving
a day later. Upon reaching
Rock Hill and making in- i
quiries as to the whereabouts of t
his daughter, Mr. Robertson was <
informed by a friend that she
wi s at the koine of Wm. Wright.
In company with Officer Jenkins ^
he went to the place named and ,
there found his daughter, wljom
he carried to. the tfome of Mr.
C. W. A. Roach, where they ,
spent the night and Saturday
morning boarded the train, the i
daughter appearing perfectly
willing to return to her home.
She is about 16 years of age, has ]
light hair, blue eyes and a rosy ;
complexion and is fairly goodlooking.
Caston could not be found in
Rock Hill although he was seen <
here Friday.
