Mrs. Landon,wife of the pro
prietor of the hotel.

being held for them, but they feared
to do so and delayed until the
gallery fell back into the flames
which were licking up the big
frame house. '
In addition to the hotel, three
stables and a half dozon store?
were burned, only the greatest ef
fort preventing the whole of the
business section of the town from
going.

severe thunder storm today and

feared that the large tanks adjoin
ing the building, which contained
20,000 gallons of oil would explode,
but fortunately this did
not happen. A strong wind was
blowing in the direction of the
tanks and at times they were completely
enveloped in the flames.
Forty barrels of oil stored in the
warehouse was lost. There was
no insurance on the building.
