A Close Call at tho Laurel street
Crossing.
Mr. K. B. Robertson, nn Khenezer
farmer, was in town Monday
with his wagon ami team of mules.
He had gotten a load of gioreries
and when at the dinner hou?* he
was driving over the Laurel struct
crossing of tho S. C. & (i. Kx.
road, the track being obscured by
the Rock Hill Buggy Oa. buildings,
un engine aud tender, tne
lutter in fronv, suddenly appeared,
running at great speed, and struck
the wagon midway of the body,
just after the uuiles had gotten
across and only u moment after
Mr. Robertson had jumped to t?are
himself. The cowcatcher caught j
the wagon under tho he urn and
shored it otf tho tvaofa, crushing '
ouefore and oae bind wheel com-,
plettfiy, overturning the bod1; and
scattering sugar and tearing f\<>ur
sacks, but not damaging the latter

t hvensboro, Ivy., July 17.-*Joshua
Anderson was taken from
jail here early this morning by a ?.
crowd of tuen and hauled to tno ^
crossbeam of the cit\ scales.
Thursday night Anderson went to t
the ti.'iiio of las wife, three miles
from town, called her out and
shot her three times, instantly
killing her.
Tho lynchers battered down the
prison door, and while sumo went
to the prisoner'-* coll to lead him
out, others of the mob surrounded
the jailor and his family to
prevent them from giving the
alarm. Anderson was soon secured
and in a few moments was
led across tho street from the
prison whore a rope was placed
about bis neck and he was hangoil.
The mob then dispersed
quietly. No arrests havo been
maiie.
Andeison was the first white
man over lynched in Daviess
county.
