Died at this place, last Friday

Capt. M. L. Red, RoadmAster
of the L. & C. Railroad, was shot
in his left arm Sunday night at
the depot by Bill Williams, col.
One of the bones in the forearm
was broken but the wound is not
serious# Williams was in the
cooking car drunk and raising a
racket when Capt. Red went in
and proceeded to put him out.
While being put out the negro
got out his pistol and shot the
Captain. Ho fled at once. A
warrant jius been issued for bis
arrest.

Mr. C. H. Deal and family
moved to Camden yesterday. The
cottage vacated by him will be
occupied at once by Mr. Charley
Stougb, of Camden, who has been
engaged by Porter and Bird as
foreman of the brick work on the
new school building.
Wm Watts, col., was convicted
before Magistrate Carnos Monday
of malicious mischief and sentenced
to 30 days on the gang or pay
(15. He paid the fine. This is
the case in which it was reported
here Monday the no^ro had been
lynched, but it seems the nature
of his ofence was terribly exaggerated.

Mrs. Betsy McMunus, of the Wild
Cat section, died last Sunday eve.,
ning at the advanced ago of about
SO years. Sho was tho widow of
the late pleas. MeManus and lived
with her son, J. D. MeManus. She
had been unable to walk for neatly
twenty years. The following
children survive her: John, Sam,
Conrad, Preston and J. I). MeManus,
and Mrs. Simon Curnes.
Her remains were interred at the
Arnnl burying ground Tuesday
morning.
