and Dense ('loads of Smoke.
Tacoma, Wash., May 30.?Val
dez advices, dated May 10, say
that Mount Redoubt in the Cook
Inlet county has been pouring out
dense volumes of smoke for over
a week past and a few nights ago
spouted out iUmes. The natives

farther end of the Kenal Peninsula.
The whites are also apprehensive
of a disastrous eruption
but are sticking to their posts.
For several days volcanic ashes
have been falling. The snow for
many miles in every direction from
Mount Redoubt is covered with
ashes, and Montague island, in
Prince William Second, is also
covered with them. Explosions
and rumblings in the interior of
the mountain are heard almost
constantly and earth tremblings
are of common occurrence.
Mount Redoubt is more active
at the present time than it has
been within its history. It has
smoked at intervals, but nothing
has occurred comparable to its
present state of activity.
