a terrible tornado. Tire storm
came from the north and it seems
there was also one from the southwest,
meeting in this vieinitv. It
played huvoc, four deaths and
considerable loss of property are
the Jesuits. The storm from the
north was preceded by a heavy
rain and what appeared to be a
dark mass about one hundred
yards wide. It traveled with
great speed and people barely had

storm was upon the town. The
wing of the storm passed along
Main street and blew several *torc
doors open, doing more or less
damage.
Knitting Mill Hill, south of the
town, caught the full force of the
tornado,i which blew down the
school house and two residences,
converting them literally into
kindling wood. The occupants
Hew from one of the houses l> fore
it went to pieces and took
refuge 'in another near bv, but

this house was also crushed to
splinters. In this house Misses
Sallie Ilart and Annie Luwson
were instantly killed, Mrs Maxey
Siuis died in an hour and her little
daughter Weva died about b
o'clock. iMexoy Sims escaped
with a broken linger. Mr. Lee
Sims received two had cuts on the
Ik ad from falling timbers and
was internally injured. Mr. Mabory
sustained a fractured sho: Ider
and had his leg badly burned
by a stove falling on him, and he
was internally injured. 11 is case
may prove fatal. Mrs Lee Si .us
received a bad cut,11 ?t fatal on the
head. Mis. Mabry and her two;
children escaped with slight injuries.
It took sometime to get the
victims from the debris. Every
physician in town was soon upon
the scene, also President Nicliol
son and Manager Gault of the
Excelsior Knitting Mills, and
willing hands assisted in reliev. i
iug the sufferers as much as possible.
The news spread rapidly and the
hill was soon full of people from
town, anxious to rander every
assistance possible. Everything
that the families had was destroyed.
Jonesvillo reports in a telegram
to Miss Luwson, the lady who
was killed, that the storm was
fearful at that place and one of
her family had been killed there. ;
Miss Luwson was ?k?ad when the!
telegram arrived.

sturm passed through this section

to crops and blowing down
houses. A house was blown
down in the town of Darlington
in which there were several colorled
people, one of whom, a ycung
; lad, was killed. A part of the

eo barn in Doneraile, a suburb

the country say that a great damage
was done to growing crops in
'some sections. An oak tree which

Mr. Uiehard Cornweli. one of
the prominent young farmers of
the Harmony section, had been
away from home for several days
leaving his wife in charge. During

the house and upon threat of

from ear to car" forced her to

told him of what had occurred,

filched his horse in a back lot.
He came oack to the horse and

says Jess was shot in three places.
It is believed that Jess rode the
