Died From His Injuries
Prominent Spartanburg County
Mnu Fatally Hurt in a Cotton
Clin.

Spartanburg, May 15.- Mr. ?J.
H. McMillan, a well known iom
dent ol tbis county, died last night
as the result of injuries received
on Tuesday afternoon by having
his left arm caught in a eottm gin.
Mr. McMillan, while engaged in
tb? ginning room noticed that one
of the gins bad stopped. V\ liilo
attempting to remedy the trouble
hisaraa was caught in the moving
wheels and badlv mangled from
the hand to tho elbow. In addition
to this he was struck on the
head, which, the doctors think,
was hi instrumental iu causing
death as was the injury of the
arm. Mr. McMillan's arm was
entangled in the gin fully two
hours before beiug extricated.
The doctors amputated the ar.it,
bill the injured man never rallied
from the shock. He was 55 years
f age and leaves a wife and tiro
children. He wu*. on? of the
wealthiest and most intluential
men in Spartanburg ceunty.

exciting debate on Philippine afairs.
Thus far the subject of
alleged atrocities in the islands
has engaged the attention of the
Sounte alone, and only occasional
echoes hare been hoard in the
House. But today the repoits of
cruelty and outrage were rehearsed
in the House with the same
vehemence and bitterness that has
at times characterzed the discussion
in the Senate. The naval
bill nasathe order of the day, but
it received only scant attention
after the allegations of Philippine
outrages were presented. A
speech by Mr. Vaudiver, of Missouri,
reciting instances of alleged
eetrage brought on the dis

he said, and had tho historian ac- (

was "glory enough for all," the (

has bean called to the fact that J.
H. Allison of Black&burg holds
