Tax Executions
The tax executions huvo been i?
Htied and placed in tho hands of
the Sheriff. There are about 2.~>U,
representing about $100. Many
of them, however, probably u in
jority of tliein, do not amount to
anything ; are against persons \vlu?
have <lied and left no property,
who luivc moved a?vay, arc in the
penitent i u-v or on the chain gang,
or are double charges?charged to
people who are on the book in a
slightly different name or are in

iret. For example, si man, say u
negro, will return himself as J. S.
Smith and the man he lives with
will return him i*> John or Js.ck
Smith. One will ho paid and the
other will not. Then, the ollieiuls
not knowing that the two names
refer to the same person, there i-?
nothing to do but to issue an exe
cution against the name that
hasn't paid ?only to find when
the constable goes to him that he
has already paid?in the otliesname.
Or maybe he is returned
in Pleasant Ilill and pn\s his taxes
in Flat Creek, leaving the name in
Pleasant Hill on the book; or in
Pleasant Ilill straight and pays in
the Heath Spring school district.
Tlio duplicate names cannot ho
thrown away in making up the
books, for the reason that in dozens
of cases there is more than
one man, oven in tho same, township,
of the same name. For instance,
there are live Frank* Parlies'
on the tax books, all negroes
and all paid?four of them in

names hnd been thrown away
