with a painful accident laat Thursday
which baa confined him to his
home. He was lifting and in some

Items From Rock Hill Herald
John and Sara Fair, two negro
men, half .brothers, engaged ia a ,
bloody fight at the Catawba dam
last Sunday. The men fell out, as 1
is usually the case, about a woman
and Sam began shooting at his
brother. Three shots were fired,

one ef which took effect in John's
left side, inflicting injuries from
which he died Monday. Sam Fair
! was immediately arrested and car!
ried to Rock Hill, where he is
still held.
Miss Mamie M. Rollins died
Sunday at the Chicora Mill, from
the effecta of typhoid fever. Mon*
day her remains were carried to
Lancaster for interment. Miss Rollins
was born in Chester Held county
and was 18 ^ears ?f age.

death on April 25, for "the usual
crime," arranged a plan to escape
from the county prison \cstcrdav
but his effort only caused him less

chains, securely locked within tko
iron cage of the couuty prison.
Gibbs had not been safely landed
back in jail after his trial before
he began to plna his escape.
Gihbes intended to make a dash
at tho jailor, Mr. Anderson, wh*u
he threw the bolt off to open tho
door to admit tho trusty, seize
him, overpower him, aid to dis? ?
able the jailor if he could ami if
not to kill bun if necessary. Gibbs
told kis Intentions to ono ?f the
inmates of the jail and through
him the plot was nipped in the
bud. The plan was to make his
scape tomorrow when the noonday
meal was being served. As
soon as the jailor learned of the
plot he imfotmed tho shoriff, who
at once had Gibbs put in chains,
and he will be kept thus until the
day of his execution.
