Death of Col IprinfV Mother
Tuesday evening Col. Springs
received a telegram from Charlotte
sussmoning him to the hedside of
kis mother. He and Mrs Springs
left at ones and reached Charlotte
that night. Thursday morning a
telegram announced her death and
the doors of tka mercantile estahnant,
in whiak Cel. Springs in
largely interested, ware closed and
remaiaed closed during the day.
Yesterday's Charlotte Observer
states ths cause of her death was
rheumatism of the heart and that
she had bean ill since last Friday,
ker condition becoming serious on
Tuesday. Further the Observer

Mrs. Spring was a daughter of
the late Judge B. B Bixter, of
Hancock county, Ga., and was
horn at the B.ixter h raastea<i,neur
Sparta, Feby 15, 1826. She was
married to Col. A. Baxter Springs
Feb. 15, 1850, and after her marriage
lived with her husband, at
his plantation at Springfield, ia
Yerk county, until 1875, when
she came to this city, and resided
here until the time of her death.
Her husband died in 1886.
Five sons* and one daughter
survive the deceased. These are
Mr. Bli B. Springs, of this city;
Mr. R, A. Springs of New York;
Mr. Alva C. Springs, of Kl Reno,
Oklahoma; Mr. Brevard D.
Springs of Charlotte; Col. Leroy
Springs, of Lancaster, S. C., and
M rs. John M. Scott, of Charlotte.
With the exception of Mr. Alvs
C. Springs all of these were with
the deceased before the end came.
Miss Elizabeth H. Baxter, a
sister, and the only ether surviving
relative, is in Burope.
Mrs. Springs was known to almost
everybody ia this city and
was beloved by a large circle of
friends. She had much strength
of character, and being in touch
with the lives of many peeple,
shewed always sympathetic interest.
She did, unestentatiously
a great deal of good; harbored
kindness, and he*- Christianity was
pracVicat and beae$ciol. She was
by birth, apd ever in personality,
a pronounced type of the Southern
woman,< the Southern lady.
Naturally, and by ereed, she enspha^ifed
family love, birth ties,
and was notably f no in this relation.
