At the regular monthly meeting
of the Town Council Monday evening

Henry MeManus for his brave
stand single handed against the
gang of robbers which he discovsred
in the Lancaster Mercantile
Co's stores one night recently,
pursuing them and returning their
lire even while their leaden miseiles
whistled about his head. His
effioient service on that night was
a feather in Henry's cap.
It was Mr. Amos Blackmon,
instead of a colored man as reported
in our last issue, who ac
orientally cut himself in the head
by hie axe catching in some vines
on Mr. J. H. Roberta' place near
Longsville last Thursday. The
information came to lie thiough a
phone message And the mistake
occurred through misunderstanriing
of our informant. Mr.
Blackmon is a stepson of Mr.
Roberta and is getting along very
well.

Lewis Lanier, an old colored
man, was accideatlv ahot by Hoke
Knight, a little ion of Mr. W. B.
Knight, with a parlor rifle last
Saturday. Hoke whh shooting at
a bird in some woods near the
roadside and Lewis, who who passing
along the road, whm not seen

Nagro Woman Dropped Dead
Caroline Gamble, an'old colored
woman, wife of Ben (lamble,
fell dead in the floor at her home
on Mr. John M. McAteer's place
near Craigville, last Sunday ni^ht.
She ate supper and went to bed as
usual that nisiht but woke her
husband up about 12 o'clock !

Fire at Heath Spring

The cotton on the depot platform
at Heath Spring was disco v. .
ered afire Saturday ahortlv after
the arrival of the freighi train and
deapire heroic effort* to prevent it |
about 100 bales of cotton were
burned. There were severslhundredhale*
ef cotton on the platform at
the time but moat of it was truck,
ed off before the fire reached it.
The fire is supposed to have start
ed from a spark from the freight
engine. It will be remembered
that Heath Spring had a big cot 1
ten fire aeveral years ago in which '
about four hundred balea were
burned and a man cremated. The
cotton helonged to The Lancaster 1
Mercantile Company and was insured.
Dea'hn in the County.
Mr. and Mrs. J<>hn Larfey, of
the Tradesville section, lost their
little babe, aged one week, on
Wednesday last. It was buried
at Spring Hill Thursday.
?Mrs. Renie Sims, of the
Dwight section, died at her home
last Friday after a protracted illness
of 'consumption. She was
about 35 years of age and leaves
one child surviving ner. Her remains
were interred Saturday at
Tabernacle.
?Died, on Saturday last of
consumption, Mr. .John Robeinson,
?f the Primus neighborhood,
j He was a son of Mr. Newman
; Robeuihen and was born Sept. 20,
i 1872 He married a daughter of
' Mr. Mart Bowers and she with
! three little children survives him.
His remains were interred Sunday
at Fork Hill church after funeral
services conducted by Rev. R. J.
Black oion.

Mrs. Sal lie Cole, wife of Mr
Lewis Cole, was 40 odd years of
age, and joined the Beaver Creek
Baptist church several years ago.
From then until her death she
lived a consistent christian life,
being an active worker for her
Master, always ready to do anything
for His cause. She was a
true friend, a devoted wife, a true
and affectionate mother, a faithful
christian. She loved all humanity
and was loved bv all. We can
say as the poet said:
