members of the "Cranford club,"
tlieir husbands, and other invited
guests at the bvautiful new home
of Mr. and Mrs VV. McD Brown
on Main street. The halls and
reception rooms were thrown into i
one and decorated witn holly and
]>altns and were brilliantly lighted.
W hen all the guests had assembled
after being received by tho reception

a few words of formal welcome
bv the president of the "Friday
Afternoon club," Mrs. L. 0.

vote for a frequent repetition of

A Brave Y\ oiliau Conquers an
Alarming Fire.
A few mornings ago the home
f Mr. .1. B. Heath had a narrow
scape from fire in which there
might have beta t-reuh'e to save
his two yhungest children. A
servant was musing up one of the
beds in the room, tne children being
asleep in another, in the same
rouiu. The servant placed a
feutner bed on a chair near ttie
stove in the room aad went into
another part of the house. While
she was absent tire was in some
way comuiiiiiicated to the feather
bed. A moment later Mrs. lleath
had occasion to go into the room
?then tilling vvit.i sim?k? and the
blaze increasing. With rare
presence ot mind she threw water
on the tied, ami pressing the burn- 1
ing parts together, succe ded in
sm tthering and extinguishing the

tire. A few minutes later and
the lire might have been a very

took place. The ceretneny performed
byjtheir pastor, Key. J.
11. Yarborough of the Lawn
Baptist church, wan exceedingly
oeautiful and impressive,
i It w'as a quiet honie wedding,
yet waa one of the prettiest among
the many duting the holiduss.
The parlors and balls of the bride's
home were exquisitely decorated
with a profusion of putted plants,
ferns and holly, which were so
artistically arranged as to present
a scene of loveliness to the ad
miring guests. Mendelssohn's
wadding march was pl.-yed hy
Mrs. Willie Massey, of Van
Wyck. At 4 p. m., as the wadding
march was sounded, the waiters
arranged themselves in coiiplas
in the following order: Mr. M. J.
McFadden and Miss Bessie Jordan
of Lancaster, Mr. W. E. Jordan
and Miss Ellen Jerdan of Lancaster,
Mr. W. F. Jordan, Jr., and

of Lancaster. As they
tered the room they formed in

two columns, the groomsmen to
the right and the bridesmaids to
the left. The bride and groom
on entering stood beneath an arch
of holly moulded into a graceful
curve by entertwining evergreens,
while the vows which made thara
one were spoken. The bride,
carrying in her hand an exquisite
boquet, was becomingly attired in
handsome traveling costume of
castor cloth with srik trimmings
an I hat of lelt to match.
Immediately after the ceremony
the happy couple was driven to
the railway station, where they
toek the train for Charleston.
They will speed their honeymaon
in the city by the sea.

Fert Lawn, and is a popular
young business man His bride
is a yeuntr woman of many admirable
qualities, and her charming
traits of character have won for
her the esteem and udmiratieQ of
a host of friends.
