of gas in the Soho furnace
of Jones tfc Laughlin near Bradys
1 street this city, at 7 o'clock this
morning, 10 men were burned to
death and probably 20 others
more or less injured. The damage

$20,000
The explosion occurred in one
! of the big blast furnaces.
! The men were at work at the

top of tae furnace over 120 feet
from tho ground. They were
raployed as fillers and were just
getting ready to quit work, being
members of the night shift, when
the gas which accumulated in the

were thrown over the unfortunate
men on the top of the structure.

Quadruple Suicide
Four Lovers S*?ek Death in Hotel
at Columbus O.
Columbus, Ohio, Dec. 18.? '
Two young women and two young
men were found dead last night

in rooms at a hoarding house, 52
East Russell street, and evidence
points to a quadruple suicide, deliberately
planned. The dead are: ,
Pearl Warner, aged 2S, second
cook at Manhattan restaurant.
Lou Kline, aged 18 third cook
at the Manhattan. ,
Sherman Lmithous, cub driver, j
.John Jacobs, chief cook at tho J
Manhattan.
> The two couples went to the
boarding house Sunday and sec
1 ured adjoining rooms, claiming
they were married. Today noth1
ing was seen of them ami though
the roam remained locked and no
response was made to culls suspi1
cion was net aroused until last
night. Finally the doors to the
rooms were forced and the occu
pants were discovered lying on
the bed* dead The kuyheles and
cracks around the doors had been
closed with rags ami the fumes of
chloroform tilled the rooms, dis
closing the cause of dentil. It wan
, evident that both couples had
planned suicide, but the motive is
not known.
