Dr. Bartlett Jones, in his day, the ferenost physician in the Pierlrnont section of South Carolina, came to Lancaster from Henry county about the year 1804. He hmlt the house where Capt. .B. J. Wit.herspoon new resides, and practiced his profession in Lancaster and surreunding counting and died abeut the year 1830. He was lame and walked with a crutch and stick. These Capt. Witherwpoon now has with a well preserved oil portrait of his distinguished grandfather. Capt. With erspoon was named after him.
