Eaves, a farmer living a few miles
from Jonesvillo, went to Unien
day before yesterday and sold j
some cotton, and on his way home
about night he was attacked by
four negroes, knocked sensehss
and robbed. Fortunate for Mr.
Eaves he had deposited all his
amney at Union but about six
dollars, which the robbers got.
AN ATTEMITED SUICIDE.
Last night Mr. VV. C Johnson,
one of our citizens, t?-ied to commit
suicide by taking morphine.
Mr. Johnsen is in the employment
ef Mr. J. B. Foster in the
music and furniture business, and
had been out on the road for more
than a week collecting for Mr.
Foster. He had sent in a check
for $50. and how much more be
had collected Mr. Foster is unable
to ascertain as yet. Mr. Johnson
returned heme last night at 8
o'clock and sown afterwards he
took several morphine tablets and.
was in a short time unconscious.
Dr. Douglass was called to see
him and treated him for the morphine
and by hard work Mr.
Johnson a as saved, hut be is still
in a stupor and no information as
to his attempted rash act has yet
been obtained from him. Mr.
Johnson has ? wife with only ene
arm and several childrea who are
dependent upon his labot for a'
living. j

alone for half an hour to prepare
