A Little Negro Burglar Whipped
By Order of Judge. True Bill
Against Representative Galluckat.
I
Special to The State.
Manning, Nov. 20.?J nrfg* Aldrich
has been holding court here
this week. A few negroea have
been tried and one er two pled
guilty to the charge ef burglary
and larceny and received sundry
sentences. James H. (Vindhara,
the chain gang overseer, who kill?
one of the convicts a few weeks
ago in dkfence of his ewn life, was
tried yesterday and promptly ac
quitted. A novel etna wu a little
hit of a negro hoy, ahout ten
years eld, who had been in jail
some time and acknowledged te
have broken inte a store a stealing
something, The judge ordered
that his father give him a severe
whipping in the presence of the
sheriff whe witnessed the performance
and saw that it was proper*
ly done.
The oase against M. C. Gal*
luchat, a lawyer here, and at
present a mem We r of the house
of representatives, was carried
ever until next conrt. A true hill
was found against him upon the
charge ef assault and battery with
intent to kill and murder. This is
the case in which Galluchat tried
to cut the throat of E. S. Ervin,
a prominent hardware man here,
in a dispute which they had over
the possession of a town lot. The
criminal court was practically
concluded in two days, and the
probability is that the work of
the civil court will he equally
as short.

A Delegation Calls on the Preai

VTashington, Nov. 18.?Tb?
President's time today was eccn!
pied largely in the disc nation ol
reciprocity. Senator Cullom, oj
Illinois, ami Representative Dal'

tiling to aay to kirn upaa tkat subject
and a delegation of agricultural
implamant tnanufacturari
consisting of James Deering, ol
' Chicago; A. B Farquhar, of
J Yark, Pa., and W. C. Bank, oi
| New York, who ara here te attend
the reciprocity conrention, which
meets tomorrew, presented a
memorial strongly urging that
something he dene. The delegation
told the President that in its
opinion, tke time for actios had
come. Reciprocity had heen talkad
and preached about far years
and ualesa a decisive step was
taken now whick weuld effect
something, the whale subject
might as well be abaaslooad.
The members of the delegatian
said they had na particular interest
| in any of the treaties, but thought,
I taken altogether, that the French
' treaty more nearly represented
the best possibilitiee in tke way
of reciprocity and that if it could
be ratified a distinct victory would
! he won. Senator Cullem, after
his interview with the President,
talked in the same vein. His attitude
is censidered important, aa
it is new practically settled that
he will he at the head of the committee.
