Czolgosz, the assassin of President McKinley, was arraigned be tore Judge Edward K Emery in the county court at 3 o'clock this afternoon on the indict stent lor the murder in the tirst degree in fatally shooting the president in the Temple of Music at the PanAmerican exposition on Sept. 0. Again the stubborn prisoner refused to plead or even to utter a word or sound, and the Hon. Loran L. Lewis, ex-supreme court justice, entered a plea of not guilty. The accused will be tried in the supreme court next Monday morning. A. j Webster died at his home here j today about 12 o'clock noon after i having been ill several months. Few of Mr. Webster's friends \ knew that his condition was so serious at this time, as he was out last Tuesday and cast his ballot at ; the municipal election. Thoy found that the wrong man had i been killed. It is said that noth ing will be done with Watson, it being claimed that he shot in selfi defense. The negro who was shet was known to be desperate and had raised his rifle to tire I when Watson shot him. It is ; believed he was wanted somewhere for a serious crime, as he ;onstantly carried a gun and seemed 1 to anticipate arrest. A merchant at Andrews sold the negro a pair of shoes recently on credit because he wai afraid to refuse.
