stockade but could not got over.
He then turned like a demon upon
the deputy who shot him in the
chest. Williams ran'to another
gate which was opened and dashed

of one hundred yards Williams t

coived a wound in the groin, the f
hall passing between the bone and c
the femoral artery. He is yet r

Three negroes were killed and t
seven severely injured by the ex- t
plosion of a boiler in the saw mill
of the Winyah Lumber Co. at
Georgetown Monday.

action of the South Carolina Democratic
executive committee in
reading Senator McLatirin out of
the party will be followed, when
Congress meets, it is said, in
eliminating McLaurin from the
Senate committees, as a Democratic
representative. It is not
for a moment thought probable
that he will re.-ign from the Senate,
but the action of the party
committee in bis State in declaring
he is not a Democrat, will
give Senator Tillman a lever to
take him off the Senate committees
to which he was assigned as

two boys were drowned
in a deep pool in Mr. V. B. McFadden's
granite quarry in the
western part of the city. The
atl'air was as tragic as it was sad.
The little fellows were about B5

years old and were children of
operatives at the Arcade mills.
Their names w.ere .Jeff Sistare and
U 'hevt Bishop, son of a poor
widow who came here from
SpartaitUmrg.
The only eyewitnesses of the
tragic ending of a Sunday frolic
were two children, one older and

had gotten into danger. One of
them waded in hut saw he oonhl
( do nothing. He then ran to the;
. mill and gave the alarm, hut the'
| help which arrived spent a solemn
, day dragging the depths until the
bodies of the hoys were recovered.

Mountain.
