Richmond, .June 28. ?In the constitutional convention today Mr. Ayer#of Wise, offered bis resolution providing for an adjournment from Saturday next to Oct. 15. He asked immediate consideration of the resolution, which was denied, 20 to 00. Then the body resumed consideration of the Thorn resolution nrovulincr f r> for taking the oath. Ex-Gov. Cameron, who was the re adjusted executive of the State, under the Mahone regime, made the most notable speech of the convention thus far, arguing against taking of an oath. Among other things he said: "No oath is required of any sovereign on earth; there is no one to whom a sovereign is responsible. The idea of an oath implies the existence of a superior. We are the people; to whom shall we swear fidelity. In criticising those who favored taking the oath, Mr. Cameron said; "They get their authority from reconstruction judges. I get mine from the Father of the Republic, from Virginia's great constitutional patriots." Mr. Davis of Franklin, in a brief speech, advocated, the taking of the oath, after which the motion to indetiniieiy postpone the reso lution providing tor taking tho oath was adopted, (50 to 14.
