He was a twin brother < of Mr. R ?I. M. Steele and was about 04 years of age. He was twice married. His first mar- ' riuge was to Miss Lettie Taylor, < who died some years ago. Two : sons by her, Messrs. John H., and Wm. A. Steele survive. His last marriage was to M iss .lane < Threatt who survives him with two small children. He was a member ct the A. Li. P. church and a good man. Honest and upright, he was esteemed by all who knew him, and enjoyed the i confidence of every one. He was a man of his word, and his word was his bond; a man too of independence of thought. Mr. Steele was slow in promising an opinion but once formed he never wavereo. He was a man of good sense and judgment in all things and a man of undoubted courage. He entered the Confederate war at its beginning und he fought to its close, j Old Co. I. 12th S. C. V.. claimed no braver soldier. Mr. Steele wae a member of j Jackson Lodge No. 53 A. F. M. and his remains will be interred at GillsCreek church at 10 o'clock this morning by the Masonic fraternity. In the'death of Mr. Steele Lancaster county loses one of her best, most quiet and peaceable citizens. Mr. and Mrs. J Black mon, of this place have the heart-felt sympathy of their many friends in the loss of their infant son, aged about 7 weeks, which occured Wednesday night. The interment took place in the new cemetery. MeUie, one of the little twin children of Mr. and Mrs W. ,1. Williams of the Douglass section, died last Saturday afternoon,aged abent two months. The burial v was at Douglass church Sunday ; afternoon. Their friends sympathize deeply with thetn in the toss of their daughter.
