Georgetown, May 11?One of
1 the most shocking accidents that
has ever befallen this section of
. the country in a number of years
occurred at Frio, S. C., 26 miles
from this city on the Georgetown
and Western railroad. Last night
at o'clock the boiler in the w
and planing mill of MoDuffie &
WelU exploded killing two men
instantly and seriously injuring

man, was thrown about 100 feet
away and when found was dead
and horribly mutilated. He leaves
a wife and two children. Tbos

the boiler. They were picked up

having bemj brought down last
night from the State IVuitontiarc,
where he has been held fo~ safeKeeping
ever since Mr. Hydrick's
death. A strong guard was placed
at the jail last, night and Wilson
will lie protected by the same
guard tonight and sent out of the
county tomorrow. An attempt
was made to Ivncli him at North
Station immediately after the accident,
and the mob, composed of
about 20t> men from Mr Hydrick's
section of the county,followed him
to Orangeburg and terrorized the
city I ho night following nis arrest
and would only leave after searching
tho jail for Wilson, who had
, been taken to Columbia

with him at the time of the col*
lision with Mr. Hydrick Judge
Benet charged the jury fully and
'clearly in the expressed considerable
surprise that the facte being
as shown, there should have ever
been any attempt at a lynching.
The jury were out about half an
nour. Wilson was represented

Phelps, of Richmond, Ky., and
.Jad&> Stansburry, of this city,
were cleaning the inside of an 8
foot upright boiler at the f'erealino
mills this afternoon when an
employe turned on the steam,
thinking the cook was tight. It
leaked and the scalding steam
p'Mired in on the two men. The
only exit was up a ladder to a
manhole in the top. Both jumped
for the ladder. Phelps reached
it first, took one step and stopped.
He jumped aside and shouted
"\ou go first, .Jim, you are married.
Stansburv sprang up the
ladder and escaped vith slight
burns about the face and legs.
, Thin gh Phelps followed at his
l heels his act of heroism cost him
his life. Both men were being
cooked when Phe'ps iumned aside.
By th. time he had followed
Stunehury up the Sadder the flesh
was dropping from his limbs. He
was cooked alive and with supreme
effort dragged his scalded body
from the mhnliole. llo lived for
two hours in terrible agony, but
did not let a groan escape him.
"It was Jim's l ight, to go first,"
suid he quietly. 4 He is married."

Milionaire Boiled to Death in a
Beer Vat.
Troy, N. Y.. Special, 10th, to
Philadelphia Record.
Samuel Bolton, Jr., a millionaire
brewer, while in the .brewing
department this afternoon stopped
to look into a vat of boiling
beer, and told James Wagner, a
workman, to go after the carpenter.
When Wagner returned he
could not tind the brewer. He
aw his hat and watch Wing on
the floor and gave an alarm
When the 100 barrels of beer had
been drawn off the I rew? r was
found at the bottom of the rat,
literally cooked with the skin and
flesh pulled off the bones The
fact that his hat. and watch were
found on the floor gave rise to the
theory of suicide.
Mr. Bolton was the head of the
brewing firm of S Bolton Sons,
and wua a political power in the
city.

Young Man Drowned.

Buumgardner, a young white man,
while seining with two friends
below the dam in Pacolet river,
at Clifton mill, No. 3, was drown*
d last night. He lost his balance
from a rock and fell into deep
water. He could not fcwim, and
before aid could reach him he
was drowned. The body was
recovered at 1 p. m. today.

Schley's Son Sick.

Admiral Schley's docison to come

Schley, his son. Dr. Schley,
performed a surgical operation in
his ofliee last Thursday. In handling
a scalpel the instrument
slipped through his. lingers, and
falling point downward penetrated
the leather of his shoe and
entered the flesh of the foot. Two
hours later unmistakable signs of
