the Iudiaola Water 1'jwer Com
pany to develop the Land's Ford
water power on Catawba river,
which will mean the bringing into
service of 10,000 horsepower.
This plant is developed to transmit
tho power electrically to Fort
Lawn, Lancaster, Chester and
other towns for operating cotton
mills and other industries. This
is a work of considerable niugnt
hilt (in I V ,1,1,1- nnn
the long list of larger and important
jobs satisfactorily and see
cessfolly completed by tho civil
engineering firm of Ladtihaw &
Ludshnw. It will re<|uiro several 1
months for completion.
Elbert Harris, a negro of An j
deraon county charged with arson,
while on hia way to tho Anderson
jaii, was taken hy a mob and
severely beaten. Four days later
he died in the Anderson jail. Ilia

charged with murder. The defenduit
claimed that the killing was by

itherwise and found him guilty

Johnson alias Bunk Watts was
next tried for the murder of his
lather. His plea was self dotense

who killed Win Kvuna at Walters'

in the other two murder cases.

complimented the condition of the
canity office#, dispensaries and
other county institutions. The
jury found some of the very old J
hit valuable records in the clerk's
oilier in had condition and recommended
that they he rebound. !
The jury also recommended the,
ceiling of a building at the poor
house, the purchase of eight pairs
of blankets for that institution
and the recovering of the large!

have erected on the court house
grounds a building to he occupied |
by the Magistrate at Lancaster C.

had occurred since the ?ourt had
been in session, and expressed the
decpost sympathy fur his family j
in their sad bereavement and
their preat sorrow at the loss to

Mrs. Mary Criminper, wife ot
Mr. C. A. Criminper and a daughter
of the lute Wesley Hilton, died
on Tuesday last at her home at
Oakhurst after a protracted illness
of fever. She was about 48 years of
ape was a pood christian woman,
and leaves her husband and several
children surviving her. Her remains
were interred at Pleasant
Plain Church last Wednesday.

Miles, colored, a 15 month's convict
on the county chaingang,dted
here last Friday and was buried by ,
the county on Saturday. Wilev ;
was convicted last spring of lar- ;
ceny from the tiold. lie was not in
good health and vas ruptured. He
was put at light work, but ctpii
that proved too much for him, and
he whs put in jail her? so that ho
could secure attention. Ho was not I
kept confined in a cell, or even in !
the jail building, but allowed the I
freedom of the jail yard. His con- j
dition was such that it was not a
hard matter to got persons inter- |
sted in his ease/Die governor was'
appealed to tor a pardon and he 1
signed it on the 10th instant. It
reached here on the 12th, the day
on which Miles died.
Singleton Mcintosh, who killed
Mr McKitiney in Abbeville a fewweeks
ago, surrendered to the
authorities in Anderson. As his ,
surrender was voluntary, there is
